Wow, it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted on my blog. I was having a huge issue with logging in and my portal showing nothing–I couldn’t even manage a couple comments. But, now that my issues have been resolved I hope to get back at it and post more consistently.
One of the things I wanted to do this summer, sort of in celebration of completing my first year of teaching as a certified teacher, was focus on getting a meditation certificate and learn for leisure.
Why Meditation?
For the past few years I’ve been practicing mindfulness meditation using the Calm App. My daughter uses Moshi. It’s been a very positive journey towards learning how to simply be in the moment and cope with life in a healthy way. These practices are not only for decreasing stress, but can help boost your mood and increase focus.
I’ve found that “mom-brain” is here to stay, but by focusing on healthy habits I am able to get back a little more of my mind through meditation. It occurred to me that the construct of meditations and the “sleepstories” found on apps like Calm and Moshi are very well-crafted and not too complicated, so I wanted to try my hand at creating meditations that are just as useful but based on Christian teachings.
After looking around on Google and various skill-share style websites, I eventually stumbled upon Udemy and the Meditation Practitioner Certification course. I appreciated the breakdown given by Graham Nicholls, instructor of this accredited course.
While I’m definitely a worksheet type of person, the organization of brief lessons makes it easy for me to go back as re-watch what I missed. I struggle greatly with auditory learning and really need paper to do my best, so I need to go back over the whole course and make my own study guide. Regardless, the information was great and the included resources were awesome.
Ease lesson had a free download of an audio track to use for creating your own meditations. That is exactly what the entrepreneurial person needs if you are looking to create your own digital meditation resources!
Other Udemy Class I Took
When I was searching for the meditation instructor course, I noticed that not only was Udemy having a special, but Rakuten had 7.5% cash back at the time. Well, that was a great deal to me so I searched around and decided to also take the course, Writing That Moves: Write Novels That Keep Pages Turning Sally Apokedak, instructor of this writing course, was very knowledgeable about how to write work that sells to publishers. I’ve been writing for years, both for work and for hobby, and found that–while I already knew the gest of most of the content–it was nice to see it all laid out in bite-sized videos.
The videos were engaging with great references to real content most people can relate to, and the worksheets were lovely. While I’ve watched all the lessons and completed my certificate for this course as well I do still want to go back and revisit some areas. If you are looking to be a more organized creative writer I definitely recommend.
Did I say Rakuten?
Yes I did, and this is my shameless and unsolicited plug in hopes that you’ll use my code. You see, when you create an account and make your first purchase through Rakuten using this link, we both get $30. Here is a disclaimer: this price changes. Sometimes it’s 10 or 20…but right now it is a whopping $30!!! So don’t wait for this sign-on promo to end…you know you shop online, why not get some money back, right?
Until next time…
